Internally, all that remained of the original building interior was a two storey volume created by the external walls and roof. The brief required much from a footprint that was potentially too small. It was obvious that space needed to be fluid and that natural light would have to be introduced from above.
The use of voids and full height doors allow space and light to flow around walls and ceilings, creating a greater sense of depth and connection between rooms.
When plaster was removed from the boundary wall, the bricks told a story of numerous modifications that had occurred over time. A light wash unified the surface, without deleting history, creating a background for the new stories to come.
